Rafael Ibarra
“I paint in a converted garage studio on the south side of San Antonio, a few blocks from where I grew up. Ten years of setting tile taught me patience with flat surfaces and how a trowel can leave a quiet ridge. Now I lay down warm greys and chalk white with wide brushes and a palette knife, letting misty gradations open up plenty of empty space for the eye to rest.”
