“After bombing on stage at a comedy club in 2019, I walked into an art supply store instead of going home. The movement in sports reminds me of timing in comedy - everything depends on the perfect moment.”

About Marlo

Marlo Shepard found painting on a rough night in 2019. After a set fell flat at a comedy club, the former stand-up comedian walked into an art supply store instead of heading home. Shepard, who holds a BFA from the University of Utah and works in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, sees sports and comedy the same way: timing is everything.

Expressionist energy runs through the impressionist brushwork, set in blues, greens, silvers and beige. Sport drives every piece: a gold football helmet on deep forest green, a batter mid-swing above a blurred crowd, a hockey player in full stride and a packed arena with downtown Denver and the Rockies behind it. Here are all six Shepard canvases in our shop.
