“After fifteen years decorating wedding cakes, I discovered that precision and color theory translated perfectly to canvas. My geometric work borrows from the clean lines I learned piping buttercream, but now I'm building layers of meaning instead of sugar.”

About Maren

Wedding cakes came first for Maren Carlisle. Fifteen years as a pastry chef taught precision and color theory, and both carried over to the canvas. Carlisle now works in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and the clean lines of piped buttercream still shape each composition.

Crisp edges and layered forms define the abstract, geometric style, set in a warm palette of beige, brown, blue and orange. Subjects range widely: a red rock mesa at sunset in Arizona, the Golden Gate Bridge under streaks of coral and magenta, a mid-century home in Palm Springs and maples blazing along the Niagara Parkway.
