“My studio is a sunroom on James Island where the morning light is pale and slightly hazy. Altering wedding gowns for eight years taught me patience and an eye for the quiet difference between ivory, cream and blush. I paint loose florals and garden corners in broken, gentle strokes, letting soft lavender shadows and pearly highlights carry the light.”
About Laurel
Laurel Pickett paints in a sunroom on James Island, near Charleston, South Carolina, where the morning light is pale and slightly hazy. Before painting full time, she spent eight years altering wedding gowns as a bridal seamstress, work that taught her patience and an eye for the quiet difference between ivory, cream and blush. She earned a BA in Studio Art from the College of Charleston.
Working in oil on linen with round brushes and soft rags, Laurel paints loose florals, garden corners and still lifes in broken, gentle strokes, letting soft lavender shadows and pearly highlights carry the light. Her impressionist, vintage-toned canvases bring a calm, romantic note to a bedroom or living room and soften a dining room or entryway. Below are Pickett’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.
