“A painting is closer to a glaze than people think. For nine years I threw pots at a production studio, watching earth tones shift with the smallest change in glaze. In an adobe studio on the south side of Santa Fe, I build mesas, cottonwoods and wildflowers from broken, feathery strokes. Dusty pinks. Sage greens. Pale violet shadows.”

About Joanna

Joanna Wexler paints in an adobe studio on the south side of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where the high desert light washes everything in soft gold. She spent nine years throwing pots at a production studio, learning how earth tones shift with the smallest change in glaze or light. She earned a BFA in Ceramics and Painting from the University of New Mexico.

Working in oil and cold wax on wood panel, Joanna paints mesas, cottonwoods, desert skies and wildflowers in broken, feathery strokes, with dusty pinks, sage greens and pale violet shadows. Her impressionist desert scenes bring warmth and space to a living room, entryway or bedroom. Below are Wexler’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.
