“I paint at a long table on my back patio in Tucson, early, before the desert heat sets in. Many years teaching second grade in two languages taught me to keep things simple and clear. I wet the paper generously and let sand, ochre and faded clay tones spread into each other. A saguaro or a doorway gets a few darker strokes, and the rest dissolves into warm light.”
About Graciela
Graciela Lozano is a watercolor painter based in Tucson, Arizona, where she works at a long table on her back patio in the early morning, before the desert heat settles in. She earned a BA in Art Education from the University of Arizona and spent many years teaching second grade in both English and Spanish. That classroom life taught her to keep things simple and clear, a lesson that shapes every painting she makes today.
Working in earth-pigment watercolor on cold-pressed paper, Graciela wets the paper generously and lets sand, ochre and faded clay tones bleed softly into one another. A saguaro or an adobe doorway gets a few darker strokes, and everything else dissolves into warm Southwestern light. Her quiet, folk-inspired scenes bring calm to living rooms, entryways, bedrooms and reading nooks, and they pair naturally with natural wood, linen and terracotta. Below are Lozano’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.
