“My first trip to Oaxaca in 2006 opened my eyes to colors I'd never imagined. The market vendors' weathered faces and vibrant textiles became my obsession. I left my accounting job that fall to chase those memories with paint.”

About Rowan

The colors of Oaxaca pulled Rowan Cabrera away from a career in accounting. After a first trip there in 2006, the market vendors and their bright textiles stayed fixed in Cabrera’s mind, and by that fall the artist had left the accounting job to paint. Cabrera now works from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Cabrera blends impressionism and abstraction in blues, grays, browns and silver. Mexico is the constant subject: the stone terraces of the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, wooden fishing boats in the turquoise shallows of Sayulita, the pink Parroquia of San Miguel de Allende seen through arches and Cerro de la Silla rising over Monterrey. The canvases that follow are the most popular Cabrera prints in our shop, ready to hang.
