“My neighbor's cat wandering into my apartment every morning got me sketching again after college. What started as quick drawings turned into detailed portraits when I realized how much emotion animals carry in their eyes.”

About Nova
A neighbor’s cat brought Nova Ellis back to drawing. After college, where Ellis earned a BA in Art from the University of Wisconsin, the cat began wandering into the apartment every morning, and quick sketches followed. They grew into detailed portraits once Ellis noticed how much feeling shows in an animal’s eyes. The former office manager works in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Realism with an emotional pull defines the work. One canvas represents Ellis in our shop: an elephant walking straight toward the viewer across the African savanna, ears spread wide, with every wrinkle of the trunk set against golden grassland. It appears below, printed on matte canvas, stretched over solid wood and ready to hang.
