“My tía Rosa's papel picado workshop taught me to see color as celebration. After years working with my hands in healing, I needed another way to create something beautiful. The transition from therapeutic touch to painterly gesture felt natural, like speaking the same language in different dialects.”

About Marisol

In Guadalajara, Mexico, Marisol Vega paints with a lesson learned in an aunt’s papel picado workshop: color is a celebration. After years as a massage therapist, Vega looked for another way to make something beautiful by hand, and moving from healing touch to the brush felt natural. The artist holds an MFA from Columbia University.

Vega’s style blends impressionism and abstraction, with thick, confident strokes. Coastal light fills many pieces, from the waves of Olas Altas to the surf at Sayulita. Inland, papel picado drifts over the cobblestones of San Miguel de Allende, where pink spires rise above terracotta roofs. The most-loved Vega canvases are just below, ready to hang.
