“Working on boats in Puget Sound for eight years taught me how light moves across water. When I moved to Colorado in 2019, I started translating those maritime memories into paintings that capture the way mountain light feels different but somehow familiar.”
Puget Sound taught Knox Atwood how light moves across water. Atwood spent eight years there as a boat builder, then moved to Colorado in 2019 and settled in Boulder. The maritime memories came along, and the mountain light felt new and familiar at once. Atwood learned to paint through plein air workshops.
Atwood paints in an impressionist style, with thick strokes and skies that glow. Water and light return again and again: the Huntington Beach pier against a fiery sunset, Quebec City mirrored in still morning water and rain-slicked French Quarter streets with a red streetcar. Golden aspen groves bring it back to the Rockies. Find the top sellers below, ready to hang.
