“Working the front desk at a contemporary gallery in 2015, I'd watch artists install their pieces and started sketching the geometric shadows they cast. Those angular studies became my first serious paintings, leading me to develop a style that breaks down urban architecture into bold, interconnected shapes.”
Jude Archer paints in Kansas City, Missouri. While working the front desk at a contemporary gallery in 2015, the former receptionist watched artists install their work and began sketching the geometric shadows it cast. Those angular studies became Archer’s first serious paintings. The artist holds a BFA from RISD.
The style is modern and geometric, with open space and a calm palette of white and beige. One piece balances a single terracotta circle against curved lines and blocks of burnt orange, olive and charcoal. The other shows a lone figure in a dark canoe on water still enough to act as a mirror. Both are shown below, ready to hang.
