“A trip to Yellowstone in 2015 with my college roommate changed how I saw wildlife. I'd been doing abstract work for years, but watching a grizzly fish for salmon made me want to capture that raw focus and power in paint.”
A 2015 trip to Yellowstone with a college roommate changed how Jaxon Ryder saw wildlife. Ryder had made abstract work for years, but watching a grizzly fish for salmon brought a new goal: capturing that raw focus and power. The former swimming coach holds a BFA from Otis College and works in Denver, Colorado.
Ryder’s style combines realism with painterly brushwork, and wildlife is the subject. The one canvas in our shop shows an elephant spraying a rainbow of color from its trunk against pure black, its body in cool blues and purples. Find it below, printed on matte canvas, stretched over solid wood and ready to hang.
