“My studio sits above a bakery in Valencia, ten minutes from the Malvarrosa beach. Before painting full time I cut and stitched sails, and I still think of canvas as something that should catch light and wind. I lay oil in broad, soft passes with a wide brush, then drag a knife across to let the morning haze swallow the horizon.”
