Megan Albright

Megan Albright paints from a second-floor room off a Savannah square, where sunlight filters through the live oaks and drifts across the floor in moving patches. Before she turned to the easel full time, she spent six years arranging flowers at a shop on Bull Street, and that work taught her how color behaves next to color: how a violet can make a yellow sing, how a cool green can make a petal seem warmer. She later earned her BFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and the florist’s eye has stayed with her ever since.

Working in oil on stretched canvas with filbert brushes, Megan paints fast and with loaded brushes, breaking her greens into violets and golds so the shadows glow and the blooms seem to shimmer in the Southern heat. Her impressionist, painterly florals and garden scenes bring a sense of dappled light and warmth to living rooms, sunny breakfast nooks, bedrooms, and entryways, anywhere that could use a little of Savannah’s soft, humid glow. Below are Albright’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.

Megan Albright painted this bare V8 block the way a mechanic sees it right before a rebuild. It is stripped down, bolted to a steel engine stand on casters, and sitting alone in the middle of a dim shop floor. The open cylinder bores catch the overhead light, and flecks of rust red and orange run across the cast iron.

The brushwork is loose and confident. The background breaks into dabs of slate blue, ochre and warm gray, while the block itself holds tighter detail in the bolt holes, the pulley and the welded seams of the stand. It reads as true still life wall art, with the energy of modern impressionism.

This is auto repair shop decor for people who have spent real hours under a hood. It suits anyone who builds engines or restores cars, and it makes a thoughtful pick for wall art for men who would rather look at a crankcase than a sunset. The weathered palette also works well as rust colored wall art in a warmer room.

Hang this canvas wall art above the workbench as workshop decor, in the office of your own garage, or among your man cave decor. It also holds its own as industrial wall art in a loft or as basement wall art beside the bar.

Jessie's Home
24" x 36" / No
