Brian Stockton

Brian Stockton is a painter based in Portland, Maine, where he keeps a small studio near the waterfront. He holds a BA in Studio Art from the University of Southern Maine, but it was his years as a commercial photographer that shaped how he sees. Behind the camera he learned to wait for the light rather than chase the subject, a patience that still guides every outing. Most of his paintings begin outdoors, whether on the Maine coast or on trips to the harbor towns of Portugal and Italy.

Working in oil on linen panel, painted on location, Stockton blends Impressionism with a grounded Realism. He builds reflections from quick, broken dabs of color, letting oranges sit inside blue water and warm highlights burn on wet stone. The result is harbors, boats, and waterfront streets that feel both observed and alive with light. His canvases bring a calm, sunlit glow to living rooms, entryways, and dining rooms, and they suit coastal homes, reading nooks, and offices that could use a window onto the water. Below are Stockton’s canvases in our shop, ready to hang.

This popcorn painting gets the smell of the lobby right without a single word. A red-and-cream striped paper bucket sits heaped past the rim with fluffy, buttery kernels, and a few strays have tumbled onto the table around its base. Brian Stockton built every piece with thick, short palette strokes, so the popcorn looks almost puffed off the surface.

Behind it, the background breaks into blocks of golden ochre, deep brown and dusky violet, like stage lights blurring before the show starts. The tabletop picks up those same warm flecks and reflects the bucket's red stripes. It's Vibrant Modern Impressionism with a sense of humor, part of our Home Cinema Nights collection.

It's for the person who plans the snacks before picking the film, and for anyone who wants cinema wall art that feels warm instead of flashy. As a popcorn canvas print, it makes an easy gift for movie buffs, new homeowners finishing a basement, or a family that keeps a standing Friday movie night.

Hang this canvas wall art beside the screen in a home theater, above a snack bar, or in a movie room where friends gather. It also works as theater room wall decor near a recliner row, or in a game room next to the console shelf, where the gold and red tones warm up a darker wall.

Jessie's
